As the excitement builds as we get closer and closer to New York Fashion Week, New York Style Guide will be featuring a designer of the week.

This week’s designer is Stacey Bendet of Alice and Olivia!

Stacey Bendet will be presenting her Spring/Summer 2016 line for Alice and Olivia on Tuesday September 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Stacey Bendet enjoys thinking outside of the box and her story of how she started her own clothing line definitely proves it. Stacey was once a college student at the University of Pennsylvania who was roller blading towards life in the corporate lane because her parents wanted her to become a lawyer. Once she looked around at her other competition around the room, she suddenly realized that she was born to stand out and not meant to blend in with the rest of the crowd. After all, Stacey did not dress like the other potential candidates and had her own unique sense of style. She had a creative itch inside of her that was destined for greatness.

At age 26, Stacey started building flash websites for people because she needed the money to support herself once she graduated. Her love for design was always evident (even though she didn’t quite realize it) when she was growing up, her family was in the fabric industry and she sketched designs as a little kid. This love for design continued to grow as she became older as she began to brainstorm style for an apparel company. Stacey noticed that there were many different types of jeans but it was hard to find pants that fit great.

The signature pants of Alice + Olivia came about from these great ideas, which is a pant that was the right cut and perfectly fit on a woman’s body. Every woman will look great in Alice + Olivia pants because they elongate the leg and raise the butt. These flared pants were striped with a wide waistband two-button style, and not to mention that they were very sexy and daring. They were pants but in the cut of a jean!

In 2002, Bendet started a 20-item collection based around the idea of the Russian Tea Room. Within a short period of time, Theory’s Andrew Rosen invested in Bendet’s new business and her pants became a necessity at Barneys. She named her line Alice + Olivia for two mother, which is her own and that of a college classmate. Bendet has become especially successful because she designs for herself, she knows what woman want in fashion and how they want to look.

Now Alice and Olivia is growing and becoming bigger than ever as it is an international, multimillion-dollar brand. Today, Alice and Olivia by Stacey Bendet is accessible at the brand’s 12 boutiques in New York, California and Connecticut, at, and at over 800 select department and specialty stores worldwide, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Lane Crawford, Isetan, Hankyu, Harvey Nichols and Harrods, as well as notable web retailers including Net-a- Porter and Shopbop. In 2008, Bendet launched a children’s wear line and in 2011, she launched a line of accessories. Bendet has collaborated with MAC Cosmetics, jewelry designer Erickson Beamon, The Lake & Stars lingerie, Payless ShoeSource, and Pretty Polly. Bendet’s clients include Gwyenth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Taylor Swift. The brand is literally taking over the world as it has expanded globally into Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Dubai.

At last years New Fashion Week, Bendet’s presentation was a stand out as being nothing less than ordinary. In the rabbit hole and winding through candles, Stacey Bendet guided guests as they witnessed an entanglement of fashions that were taken out of  the pages of The Brothers Grimm, titled “Enchanted: A Midwinter Night’s Dream.” The Alice and Olivia designer completely changed Chelsea’s McKittrick Hotel into a fairytale fantasy that was perfect for the extravagant brocades, liquid metallics, and an abundant amount of detailing for her Fall/Winter 2014 collection.
